A proposed Reality Televison Show
TOR Hershman
Welcome distinguished guests.
As you all know, reality television has been a
mass-media sensation for quite a while.
As you may also know the latest trend is to merge themes and/or
programs into one highly entertaining package that the majority of
consumers will be fascinated by.
Here are some marketing facts and criteria.
Firstly, what holiday is second only to Christmas in terms of
household decorations?
The answer is Halloween.
Likewise Halloween is the #1 holiday for the sale of confections and
only #2, behind Easter, for the purchasing of time-specific apparel
in the U. S. A.
Secondly, monster, fantasy and Science-fiction movies have, for
years, generated
huge box-office profits.
In fact, 15 of the Top Twenty grossing films of all-time, in the U.
S., have been
of those genres.
That's 75%, that's a huge market share.
The fact of the matter is...people love their spooky shows.
Be it aliens just wanting to "Go home," or ones trying to blast our
homes,
be it lovable green ogres or ring snatching creatures, or just good
old fashioned
Jurassic dinos, people love them.
Thirdly, televison has had some of the all time greatest
SciFi/Monster hosts and programs.
The X-Files has been successful both on the small and large screens.
Star Trek has been a tremendous sensation for decades.
Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone has kept the rapt attention of
millions in every corner of the Earth.
And in today's world of syndication and cable many programs, such as
Stargate SG-1, The (New) Outer Limits and Andromeda have enjoyed
great runs.
In fact, there's an entire cable channel for entertainment á la
fantastique.
We now arrive at our proposal for a reality show that combines
the tremendous appeal of this time-tested
format with the excitement of reality television
in a show that will be called....."Ghost to Ghost!"
The premise, there will be two teams.
One represents the west coast, the other the east.
The teams shall be composed of many local entertainment professionals
that will bring with them
established audiences as well as well-honed entertainment skills.
Most of the team members should be selected from the many local
horror movie hosts from across the country.
This will allow for the widest range of viewer interests to be piqued.
Some possible choices would be, the curvaceously loverly Jami Deadly,
the comedically creative Mr. Lobo, the rock & rolling A. Ghastlee
Ghoul.
These are but a few of the local legends that would be perfect for
this project.
There could also be team members from various crafts, such as,
special effects artists or managers of such venues as Disney's
Haunted Mansion.
Now, unlike many reality shows, which depend on purely quantitative
stunts (Such as "Survivor") or ones that rely solely on the
subjective judgements of one or more professionals
(As with "The Appetence"), we propose that the shows' tasks be both,
some objective, some subjective.
We feel people would respond most favorably to having two hosts, one
of each gender.
And who would we have as one the two hosts of "Ghost to Ghost."
Our dream hostess would Elvira.
Our male host, this is a subject open for consideration, would be
someone
as one of the following:
Michael Eisner (He would give the proceedings great respectability
and professional insight),
Tim Burton (He would bring to the project incredible artistic
sensibilities),
it may even be possible to have Elvira as the main host with a
different or rotating male co-hosts.
In conclusion,
"Ghost to Ghost" would be a reality show with built in markets,
highly popular themes and
participants with a great sense of competition and drive.
We have no doubt that it WOULD be a ratings sensation.
¤¶¤
[Possible stunts: Get two celebrities and have the teams
design their funerals (These would need to be 'super
cool' famous folk - I think Jerry Seinfeld may be inclined
to endeavor such a project).
Designing a haunted house, Making an EXTREMELY short horror movie,
etc]
[Possible prizes for the winner of "Ghost to Ghost,"
Money is always acceptable,
The Munsters' dragster (or replica),
trip to Transylvania, etc]
